LAWRENCEVILLE & BLOOMFIELD

The Lawrenceville neighborhood lies about 2 miles east of Downtown, along the south bank of the Allegheny River. Brick rowhouses are the predominant type of housing, although there is some detached brick housing, and some frame housing, detached and in rows. There are few appartment buildings in this district. Alley houses are very common. Most houses front right at the property line with a short stoop in front. Many have the sideways stoop that is so common in Pittsburgh. Bloomfield lies to the south and east of Lawrenceville. The sections nearest to Lawrenceville tend to have a similar look, though there are more frame houses than in Lawrenceville. The eastern section tends to be predominantly detached brick homes with front porches and small front yards.
