Pittsburgh's East End
Pittsburgh's East End reaches from the eastern border of Oakland
all the way to the city line, and contains several diverse neighborhoods.
The Shadyside neighborhood is one of the city's toniest. The western
section contains mostly large homes on spacious (for the city) lots.
The eastern section contains mainly detached, porch front homes
built very close together. Walnut Street contains high level retail and
some night spots.
Squirrel Hill, located south of Shadyside, also has a section of "mini mansions",
with the majority of homes being brick detached homes with porches. There are a
fair number of apartment buildings, and a smattering of rowhouses.
Other East End Neighborhoods are:
Homewood; Close built brick homes w/porches and a substantial number of porch
front rowhouses, built in long rows, West Philadelphia style.
East Liberty; Frame porch fronts, covered with siding.
Morningside; mainly brick detached.
Point Breeze; Large brick detached
Garfield; All types.
Friendship; Large brick Victorians.
