South Pittsburgh
South Pittsburgh consists of the South Side, (Slopes and Flats),
and the section of the South Hills that is inside the city limits.
The South Side Flats is mainly covered with rowhouses, mostly
brick, but there are some frame. The slopes are covered with
detached frame houses that are stoop fronted. The rest of South
Pittsburgh has mainly detached homes with porches. In the older
sections (Mt. Washington, Beltzhoover, Allentown, Arlington) these
tend to be frame. In the newer (relatively speaking) sections, (Brookline,
Beechview, Carrick, Overbrook, Knoxville and Bon Air) these tend
to be brick. Apartment buildings are few, and rowhouses are seen
only occasionaly.
